Pastor Dwight Cockerham
Reverend Dwight Cockerham Sr's childhood began in the state of North Carolina. He was born to the late Matthew Cockerham and Maeola Josephine Bellamy-Cockerham, he is the oldest of 6 children. He moved to Florida- West Jackson County in the late 1960's and attended the public schools of the Jackson County. He learned the struggles of life with his mother and as he, his mother, and siblings gathered crops to make ends meet. After his graduation from Cottondale High School, he worked for over 30 years until retirement from the State of Florida.
He accepted the call of God to the gospel ministry. The Lord moved him, his wife, and their children from Jackson County to Tallahassee Florida for 3 years of a growth spurt in the Lord. After returning to Jackson County, he and his family were sent to the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he led the congregation in bountiful growth in spirit and numbers. Throughout his 22-year tenure at Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, in Grand Ridge, Florida; his family expanded to include seven children- three daughters and four sons. All of the children grew up in the environment of love, simplicity of life, care, and support!
Pastor Cockerham gives leadership to the Progressive Missionary & Educational State Convention as the advisor to the Brotherhood Ministry while serving as the advisor to the Ministers Wives Auxiliary and is the Second Vice Moderator to the Second West Florida Missionary Baptist Association. For many years, he served as Second West Association Clerk.
His educational accomplishments include a high school diploma from Cottondale High School, a Bachelor of Theology Degree from Gulf Coast Seminary in Panama City, Florida (1989) and a Master's Degree in Theology and Divinity from Smith College Bible University in Tallahassee, Florida (2017).
Avid writer, lifelong learner, and student of the word for many years, he is Professor Biblical Studies at Smith College Bible University at the Second West M.B. Association Campus in Marianna, Florida.
Pastor Cockerham began Pastorship at Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church in June of 2007, which is where he was licensed and ordained at the beginning of his ministry. Moreover, Mt Tabor was the church where he was he was joined in holy matrimony to Daisy Marie Bell in May of 1979.
Today, almost 40 years later, Pastor Cockerham is found there, worshiping, praising, and leading God's people with love and truth!!
